EPIDEMIOLOGY SINONASAL CANCER

• 0.1-0.2% of all cancers • Incidence: 5-9 per million for males, 2-5 per million for females • Epithelial cancers are the commonest (SCC, ADC) • Most frequent sites are nasal cavity and maxillary sinus • Occupational risk factors: wood and leather dust, nickel, radium-226/228 and their decay compounds, and acids used in isopropyl alcohol production (second most important cancer site for occupational attribution after mesothelioma) • Mortality rate is 0.5-3.3 per million; it has been decreasing worldwide in the last 40 years
