• Definitive radiotherapy has historically been reserved for patients with stage I-III disease, and the most common indication for radiation therapy to the primary site for patients with metastatic NSCLC)has been palliation for pain or other symptoms directly resulting from tumor. • However, stage IV NSCLC is a very broad category , and prior studies have suggested that some patients with stage IV NSCLC and only a few distant metastases (‘oligometastasis’) may benefit from local therapy to both the primary tumor and the distant sites of disease .
