• may take longer, but can run overnight immediately after the contouring process • may result in improved plan quality (computer doesn’t mind ‘drinking another cup of coffee’) • does general require an extensive hierarchical list of priorities • output can be used as an input for manual optimization • reduces the interobserver variability
