What is the clinical rationale?

The “3D” Conformal Hypothesis

“ A dose distribution is superior if the treatment volume is reduced toward the target volume and still covers the target volume in all dimensions. ”

 By conforming the treatment more closely to the diseased tissues, higher doses can be given without increasing the risk of normal tissue complications.
