APBI: A NEW PARADIGM

APBI using multicatheter brachytherapy SHOULD be offered for all low-risk breast cancer patients with • Invasive ductal carcinoma • Age over 50 • pT1 and pT2 <3cm • Hormonal receptors + • pN0

633 cases treated in the APBI arm: • 41-50 y.o. : 91 • Invasive lobular ca: 85

• pT2 <3cm: 67 • Grade 3: 57

• Pure low risk DCIS: 36 • Hormonal receptors -: 34 • pN1 mic: 5

This is a new paradigm: Low-risk cases do not need WBI (and we should avoid to radiate unnecessary tissue and OAR)
