Conclusion The results of this retrospective study suggests a favorable outcome for patients with localized inoperable esophageal cancer when CRT is applied compared to RT alone This outcome was similar in the subgroup of elderly patients. To what extent these outcomes are due to the difference in treatment efficacy of CRT versus RT rather than selection bias, tumor biology, performance status or a combination of these aspects should be studied in a future prospective randomized clinical trial.
