Conclusion In this study, we showed that by using a newly developed dynamic ridge filter we could reduce the number of energy layers required to generate different SOBP by a factor of three while being independent of energy. As we can use the same ridge filter design for different types of tumors, the use of a dynamic ridge filter will not increase the complexity of treatment planning. As this design is not patient-specific or beam model-specific, it is easily adaptable for other proton therapy facilities, too.
