Conclusion:
There is no significant difference in survival and locoregional control. It may be surmised that locoregional recurrences occur earlier with oropharyngeal tumours than with hypopharyngeal tumours. Majority (76%) of the oropharyngeal tumours tested negative for HPV and hence the impact of HPV positivity on treatment outcomes of these tumours cannot be commented upon and is unlikely to be relevant.
