Conclusion:

The potential of RWD to provide useful and inclusive clinical evidence is strongly recognised in the UK oncology community. RWD based research is already happening in many centres. The key barriers to further development of RWD initiatives identified were data accessibility, data quality, staff engagement and prioritisation/resourcing. None of these barriers are insurmountable; to make further progress the profile of RWE within the oncology community needs to be elevated in order to drive higher prioritisation and resourcing.

The Mission of Brave – A charitable paediatric RT project

Purpose/Objective:

The paediatric radiotherapy patients need more psychical support before and during the therapy process. Distress and fear can be resolved with adequate information and playful elements.

Material/Methods:

‘The Mission of Brave’ is a charitable project in Hungary for paediatric radiotherapy patients. We give a thematic gift box for children age 3-14 ys before their external beam radiotherapy which contains the following gifts (Figure 1): • a LEGO set of 100 pieces which is a linear accelerator; • a plush teddy bear (which can escort them to the treatment room where their parents cannot leave with them) with a polar bedsheet (children can use this on the treatment table); • a radiotherapy booklet: a cartoon about Brave, who defeats the evil cells on a planet with his linac spaceship in the space, and also playful and funny exercises in the radiotherapy topic, i.e.: electron labyrinth, bunker-colouring, crossword, quizzes, jokes, etc.; • colour pencil set – to fill the exercises in the booklet; • a storybook about oncological treatments; • stickers about Brave and the linac-spaceship.
