Purpose/Objective:
To explore the experience of patients with Lung Cancer taking part or declining participation in the PREHABS study at The Leeds Cancer Centre as part of building a Theory of Change.
Material/Methods:
Prehabilitation programmes have been used for surgical patients but less commonly for patients having radiotherapy (2) . A programme of stopping smoking, physical activity, pulmonary rehabilitation and dietetics support was offered alongside radiotherapy treatment at The Leeds Cancer Centre as part of a feasibility study to assess whether it would assist patients with Lung cancer to better tolerate treatment and improve quality of life. The aim was to conduct in-depth qualitative interviews using a predesigned topic guide with 20 patients (14 patients that took part in PREHABS, 6 patients that declined to take part). Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Brief feedback was recorded as notes in two tables. A thematic framework analysis (1) was employed to assess the qualitative data.
