Results:

103 patients were transferred to the HN PFU pathway in the initial 18 months of implementation. 97 PROM questionnaires were returned. Table 1 describes the frequency of physical and emotional SCs reported in context of primary tumour subsite.

56 patients with an oropharyngeal cancer returned a PROM, with 30 patients identifying a total of 64 SCs (median SC per patient = 1). 23 patients with a laryngeal cancer returned a PROM, with 11 patients identifying a total of 17 SCs (median SC per patient = 1). 6 patients with an oral cavity cancer returned a PROM. 6 patients identified a total of 21 SC (median SCs per patient = 3). Two- thirds of SCs identified were classified as ‘physical’ in patients with oropharyngeal (n=47, 73%) and oral cavity cancer (n=14, 67%). In patients with laryngeal cancer, 82% (n=14) were linked with physical concerns. In all tumour groups the most common physical concern identified was ‘Dry mouth’ (n=33, 41%). The most common emotional concern identified was ‘Fear of recurrence’ (n=14, 50%). 28 patients underwent primary radical radiotherapy (RT) treatment. Of these, 14 identified a total of 20 SCs. 54 patients underwent RT with concomitant chemotherapy (C), of which 13 had a course of induction chemotherapy. 30 of these patients raised a total of 64 SCs. 14 patients were treated with radical surgery followed by adjuvant post operative RT/CRT. 8 of these patients raised a total of 24 SCs. The median number of SCs raised by patients for each treatment modality was 1. ‘Dry mouth’ was the most commonly identified SC across all treatment modalities.
