Prospective trial on CBCT imaging with 2D antiscatter grid: initial experience with image quality

Purpose/Objective:
Poor CBCT image quality is one of the major detriments during target localization and for quantitative dose delivery monitoring using CBCT images. Scattered radiation is one of the major causes of poor CBCT image quality. To suppress scatter and improve CBCT image quality, we developed novel two-dimensional (2D) anti-scatter grid and data correction algorithms for linac-mounted CBCT systems. In this work, we present the first image quality assessment of our proposed CBCT approach in an ongoing prospective trial.
Material/Methods:
Our proposed CBCT approach was referred to as quantitative CBCT (qCBCT). Each qCBCT scan was acquired by installing an internally developed tungsten 2D antiscatter grid prototype on the kV imaging panel (Fig. 1). Raw images were corrected for residual scatter that was not rejected by the 2D grid.
