Purpose/Objective:

The observational study aimed to investigate the potential role of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in prostate cancer (PCa) patients who were candidates for salvage radiotherapy (sRT) following biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy.

Material/Methods:

The study included 91 PCa patients. The median age of the patients was 67 years, with a range of 41 to 78. The median PSA level at biochemical recurrence was 0.4 ng/ml, ranging from 0.01 to 6.24 ng/ml (interquartile range: 0.22-1.04). Most patients (75.8%) had high-grade ISUP scores (3-5). All patients underwent clinical and instrumental evaluations, including pelvic mpMRI with an endorectal coil.

Results:

mpMRI detected macroscopic local recurrences in 54 out of 91 patients (59.3%). Of these local recurrences, 68.5% were located at the bladder neck, 20.4% at the vesicourethral anastomosis, 9.2% in the recto-vesical space, and
