Abstract:

The optimum dose-fractionation scheduling for MRI-based image-guided brachytherapy (IGBT) for cervical cancer remains to be established. In particular, there is concern regarding schedules which use large doses per fraction.

This talk will review publications on schedules which use relatively large doses per fraction in the literature. The clinical results of an accelerated IGBT schedule will be presented.

Case example: Approval of a new daily-adaptive proton therapy workflow

Francesca Albertini

Paul Scherrer Institute, Center for Proton Therapy, Villigen, Switzerland

Abstract:

This presentation presents a case study highlighting the implementation of a new online daily adaptive proton therapy workflow. The developed workflow will be presented, highlighting its key features and benefits. It will also demonstrate the use of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) as a valuable tool to ensure patient safety and workflow efficiency. Examples of the comprehensive acceptance and commissioning process undertaken to validate the workflow are also provided.

Cell-state dynamics regulate the sensitivity of tumours to radiotherapy

Mohamed Abazeed

Northwestern University, Radiation Oncology, Chicago, USA

Abstract:

Introduction : Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) is an aggressive, tobacco-associated tumor with neuroendocrine features characterized by rapid growth, metastatic progression, and initial response followed by almost invariable resistance to therapy. Studies to date have not resolved the means by which diverse transcriptional programs contribute to the intratumoral heterogeneity of SCLC and, hence, shape tumoral phenotypes. Methods : We combined one of the largest and most diverse inventories of patient-derived xenograft models (PDX) of SCLC globally ( n = 64) with an ex vivo culture system that maintains transcriptional fidelity with matched tumors grown in vivo to resolve the transcriptional heterogeneity of SCLC and its dynamics.
