Interdisciplinary - Education in radiation therapy

ESTRO 2024

A SABR course and workshop was held over two days. The first day was held at University College Cork and focused on presentations and clinical case studies by expert members of the radiotherapy MDT, see table 1. Group discussions for Questions and Answers occurred and were encouraged after each presentation in an informal manner. Real-life case studies were shown to highlight the challenges and roadblocks encountered and the workarounds and learnings that resulted in effectively setting up a SABR program. A paper-based feedback survey was distributed at the end of the course on day 1 to those who attended in person to evaluate the course. On the second day a workshop was held which consisted of a collection of four workstations at the Bon Secours Radiotherapy department to view; 4D CT Motion management, Motion Assessment and 4D contouring (CT-Sim & planning) Planning case liver, Brain SRS and Prostate SABR.

Results:

33 people attended in person and 25 provided feedback. An 85% response rate was achieved. 55%, n=18, heard about the workshop from a colleague. 18%, n=6 has seen it advertised on the social media platform “X”. Attendees came from radiotherapy centers from throughout Ireland including Galway, Dublin, Limerick, and Cork. A wide range of the radiation oncology MDT attended: including dosimetrists (n=3), physicists (n=5), radiation oncologists (n=5), radiation treatment therapists (n=11) and radiotherapy services managers (n=1). Common themes from the feedback survey included; The importance of the whole MDT involvement in developing and delivering a SABR/SRS program throughout the radiotherapy pathway process, including the initial consultation, pretreatment planning and treatment delivery stages. Practical honest information on how to approach service set up, including the pros
