Results:
The four contouring rounds were completed by 42 (95 %), 43 (98 %), 41 (93 %) and 35 (80 %) radiation oncologists, respectively. At baseline, medians of DSC were above 0.75 for all structures except for optic nerve , for which it was 0.67.
When comparing the contour quality after teaching to baseline, significant differences and increased medians of DSC were found for oral cavity and thyroid (figure 2).
In the follow-up cases where AI-assisted contouring was introduced, significant differences and increased medians of DSC were observed for oral cavity, parotid and spinal cord. Thyroid in the long-term follow-up was significantly different from after teaching and had a lower median DSC. For brain stem, mandible, optic nerve and submandibular , no differences were found in any of the comparisons of DSC (figure 2) No differences in variance were observed between baseline and after teaching. Compared to after teaching, differences in variance were observed for brain stem, mandible, oral cavity and spinal cord in immediate follow-up and for brain stem, optic nerve, oral cavity and spinal cord in long-term follow-up (figure 2, triangles)
Conclusion:
The contour quality was generally high at baseline, and thus there was little room for improvement. Nevertheless, teaching improved contour quality modestly for oral cavity and thyroid . Greater improvements were gained with AI-assisted contouring for oral cavity, parotid gland and spinal cord and the effects were retained after 6 months
