Interdisciplinary - Global health

ESTRO 2024

• Discussed 5 key components of the framework:

1. Training & Technical Support 2. Maintenance & Service 3. Data & Monitoring 4. Quality & Safety 5. Advocacy

• Bring together physicists, therapists, radiation oncologists, industry, and not for profit representatives to discuss the key components • Draft detailed framework in virtual working groups; outlining the essentials, checklists and implementation plans for each component

Phase III:

• Present the documents from the key components of the framework • Align radiotherapy planning with other elements of cancer control plans (prevention, screening, diagnostics, other therapeutic modalities, supportive and palliative care, AI) and primary care • Engage with patient representatives • Bring government leaders, ministries of health to the table • Discuss financing to execute, distribute and implement

Phase IV:

• Create a dynamic, living document, allowing for accessibility and global feedback • Using feedback, establish a formalized version of the resource that can be prepared for publishing • Simultaneously pilot the RT Essential Standards resource through the creation of the Vision Document

Results:

This essential radiotherapy template and minimum standard will be viewed as similar to other essential medicine and technologies lists, becoming a global resource for every country and institution

Conclusion:

The framework will allow relevant stakeholders in each country to adapt for their respective and unique infrastructures, healthcare systems, resources, and cultures. The piloting of this resource, as evidenced in the Radiotherapy UK 10-year Vision Document, will prove the efficacy of this process and can be implemented into other regions and countries.
