Additionally, our institute developed an innovative applicator for contact therapy for rectal cancer. This innovative contact therapy technique was recently shown in a phase III trial to amplify complete tumour responses in rectal cancer patients with radiotherapy alone, avoiding costly and mutilating surgery. Our applicator makes contact therapy for rectal cancer an affordable option for many centres, as it can be attached on standard equipment owned by many radiation oncology institutes already. This FLOWER rectal applicator is ready for imminent integration in our daily practice. The institute’s commitment to long -term administration of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) following treatment completion since 2016 enables continuous assessment and refinement of care process transformations, thereby upholding the fundamental principles of VBHC.

Conclusion:

Our institute’s unwavering dedication to continually elevate patient outcomes exemplifies our commitment to deliver VBHC for oncology patients. The next strategic step is to further develop and strengthen its internal quality system for continuous optimization of patient care and to further quantify the impact on healthcare cost. This holistic approach not only defines our present, but also heralds a future where patient-centered innovations transform healthcare landscapes.
