Response rates for pre- and post-surveys were 50.0% (N=169) and 24.0% (N=85), respectively. Initially, 9.5% of the employees were unfamiliar with patient participation, and 17.2% believed it should be applied frequently. Post interventions, only 2.4% remained unfamiliar (p=0.13) and 39.3% reported being more aware of it. While the frequency of patient participation did not change (p=0.54), communication with patient organizations improved significantly (p<0.001). The patient panel and the information page were known to 45.2% and 28.6% of respondents, respectively. Respondents’ attitudes toward patient participation also improved, advocating for its more frequent use (p=0.004).
Conclusion:
Our efforts represent a significant stride in promoting patient participation within our clinic. This is important because previous research suggests that actively involving patients in healthcare decisions enhances their engagement and improves their quality of life. Our continuous commitment to these initiatives is a prerequisite and demonstrates our dedication to patient-centered care, emphasizing ongoing improvement and inclusivity. This approach serves as a blueprint for other interested RT centers, fostering a culture of patient participation in RT. Further research will be conducted to examine the relationship between increased attention and awareness among our professionals for patient participation and the actual improvement of patients' quality of life.
