Brachytherapy - Head & neck, skin, eye

ESTRO 2024

Thirty participants (90%) returned the post-course questionnaires. Overall score of the H&N and Breast BT teaching course was 8.9/10. Ninety-three percent of attendees rated the CW as “very good”, and 7% as “good”. Twenty-seven percent of ROs commented that the CW was very useful or was the best part of the whole training course. Thirty-three percent of participants proposed to increase time for the CW or to add hands-on training for other H&N tumor sites. Other comments: tissues on cadavers felt like in real patients (except for the lower temperature), confidence in performing interstitial BT increased after the hands-on training.

Conclusion:

Cadaveric brachytherapy workshop can be successfully implemented as an alternative to hands-on training on mannequins. CW demonstrated high efficiency and satisfaction and may lead to increase confidence of ROs in performing interstitial H&N BT. Developing practical skills is essential to keep BT as an important treatment modality for H&N cancers.
