Conclusion:

We were able to obtain statistically significant reductions in the irradiated isodose volumes and dose to organs at risk compared to the normal plans with the same median monitor units. However, the reductions were small, probably not clinically significant and the 5-fold increased amount of time it required to make these plans precludes the use in daily practice. There might be certain situations where this approach would be beneficial to patients, but it will require further study to identify.
