After this study it is concluded that optimization with gEUD targets is a very useful tool in IMRT-VMAT treatment planning, offering greater control both in PTV coverage and in the protection of healthy tissue and organs at risk.

The intensity modulation of volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) plans is difficult to optimize due to the mechanical constraints on the leaf movement of the multileaf collimator (MLC), which makes it a highly non convex problem.
