Conclusion:

The TG-43 dosimetry of the INTRABEAM represents an efficient and more accurate alternative to the current clinical approach of calculating the IORT dose with the TARGIT method, which may considerably underestimate doses to nearby OARs. It is of interest to inquire about alternative model-based dose calculation algorithms that may reduce differences in organ-absorbed doses when accounting for tissue heterogeneities. However, the accessibility and efficiency of the TG-43 can considerably improve the workflow and output of glioblastoma patients treated with intraoperative radiotherapy in the near future.
