Conclusion:
The residual shifts between the two pre-positioning strategies showed comparable distributions across all parameters with minor variations, potentially explained by the field-of-view of the cameras and a learning curve for the SGRT system. For thoracic patients and other soft tissue cancer patients we saw reduction in the percentage of repeat imaging, while for pelvic, head & neck and bone patients, we saw an increase. The differences in repeated imaging procedures are not major enough to prefer one strategy over the other, and further investigation into possible reasons for differences is needed.
Overall, we conclude that the accuracy and repeat-imaging for a SGRT pre-positioning is not inferior to a laser/tattoo pre-positioning. The SGRT method, however, has the inherent benefit of a tattoo-less workflow.
