Conclusion:
The Elekta Versa HD accelerator allows for the delivery of pulmonary and hepatic SBRT radiation treatments with respiratory cycle gating, with a relatively small irradiation time window, without a clinically significant impact on the dosimetric distribution of the plan, at least with regard to the MLC positioning and photon fluence delivered by the equipment. This is of great importance for ensuring the viability of new gating systems being introduced to the market, which allow gating with real-time tumor position tracking throughout the treatment that may potentially have a small radiation time on window. However, it is possible that treatments delivered with gating systems like free breath gating may exhibit significant variations in dose distribution within the patient due to the additional risk of intrafraction motion associated with the increased treatment time inherent to the use of gating systems.
