Conclusion:

Both PBT and ART are robust treatment options for irradiation of rectal cancer, given the use of pre-CBCT for target position verification. In general, PBT spares larger volumes of low-dose to adjacent OARs. ART has potential to reduce high-dose volumes, especially in the case of cranially located tumours with large movement.
