Conclusion:
Previous studies with clinical applications of probabilistic approach for robustness evaluations [1], [2] always adopted an analytical solution for dose calculation engine in order to reduce the impact on the calculation time. To the best of our knowledge this is the first probabilistic robustness evaluation tool that uses a Monte Carlo as dose calculation engine. Since the simulation time of a pRE does not fit with clinical time workflows, it was compared with a classic worst case systematic approach implemented in commercial TPS in order to find the best setup parameters that were able to surrogate the pRE results. The results of this study led to the definition of a set of new wRE parameters values, different from the ones used previously in clinical practice, and now used in plan approval workflows.
