Figure 2: Comparison between automated and manual plans of ACE, MLD and MBD. A higher value for the ∆NTCP for ACE indicates a larger difference between the proton and photon plan, and therefore a better performance of the method for plan generation.

Conclusion:

We have successfully implemented automatic IMPT treatment planning in clinical practice for plan comparison for breast cancer patients, achieving a time-save of 1 hour per plan. While plan quality is maintained, we recommend a manual review to detect potential inaccuracies, particularly when the NTCP gain is near the threshold for referral.
