Conclusion:
Although the institutions acknowledge the variability of proton RBE, they currently adhere to the prevailing guideline of prescribing a constant RBE of 1.1. Nevertheless, they actively employ strategies during treatment planning to mitigate the potential increased risk of normal tissue toxicities associated with enhanced RBE. Research efforts are concentrated on pioneering optimization and evaluation techniques utilizing various functions beyond a constant RBE. To facilitate the implementation of these advancements in clinical practice, the institutions expressed a growing need for additional clinical data and the standardization of LET and RBE calculations within the proton therapy community. Consequently, all institutions express a strong desire for continued clinical development of functions beyond the constant RBE aligning with existing research capabilities. This is also aligned with ongoing work where LET d evaluation and optimization already are clinically available.
