Conclusion:

Incorporating hyperthermic radiosensitization and cytotoxic effects into radiotherapy optimization allows for uniform target EQD2 escalation despite non-uniform temperature distributions. This study demonstrated this in two advanced rectal cancer cases with distinct temperature distributions, maintaining OAR doses like individually optimized plans. This approach can extend to pre-treatment planning across various sites and adaptive schedules based on actual realized temperature distributions. Additionally, combining hyperthermia with proton therapy offers substantial OAR sparing and flexible dose painting capabilities, promising potential for enhanced treatment outcomes of thermoradiotherapy.
