The failure rate is approximately 15% (8/53) for the patients that were picked up by Prosoma Core. This equates to one patient requiring PSQA every two weeks, assuming a throughput of 4 patients/week. Furthermore, the PSQA results are available roughly 15 minutes after the end of the delivery, whereas with PSQA, a minimum of 20hrs have to elapse before the films can be read. With the introduction of Prosoma Core, approximately 4 patients/month would require PSQA, compared to the current system of approximately 4 patients/week requiring PSQA. This represents a large efficiency for the department, as valuable linac time would be released for additional patient treatments and staff efficiencies would amount to approximately 7 hours/week for 2 members of staff.
Conclusion:
The commissioning of Prosoma Core has shown that it can safely replace PSQA for SRS treatments in our centre. The tolerances were set so that 1patient/month would fail the secondary dose calculation and 2-3 patients/month would require PSQA. The time efficiencies achieved would be significant for the department.
