For chambers aged four to six years, there was only a 5.9% occurrence of 2 or more output adjustments being performed in a single year, with one annual adjustment (58.8%) being most common.
Figure 2: Annual percentage output variation with age of the monitor chamber in years. Legend describes all available photon energies where 6x and 15x represent 6MV and 15MV beams, respectively, and 6FFF and 10FFF represent 6MV and 10MV flattening-filter free beams.
Conclusion:
This study characterised the response of linear accelerator monitor chambers with clinical age, for chambers up to six years in age. The annual variation of output could be used to assist in identifying when adjustments may need to be performed, where greater numbers of output adjustments could be expected in the initial years post-chamber installation.
