Conclusion:
Our study considered longitudinal dosing of 10 serum cytokines up to 1 year after the end of RT. We also recorded GU and GI toxicity for a median follow-up time of 30.5 months and correlated it with serum cytokine levels at the different time points considered. Our preliminary data found significant variations of the levels of the pro inflammatory cytokine IL-2 and type I interferons (INF-α and β) which can also promote tumor immune surveillance (14). Furthermore, we found a significant difference in IFN-γ levels between patients with or without prostate, in agreement with what has been reported in literature (4). We found no statistically significant correlations between before-RT and end-RT cytokines levels and late GU or GI toxicity.
