Conclusion:

The CAF secretome significantly alters HNSCC cell migration, and the presence of CAFs also affects secretion of several immunomodulatory cytokines by PBMCs. We demonstrate that irradiation of CAFs induces a senescent phenotype, but interestingly, CAF irradiation does not influence the effect of CAFs on either HNSCC cell migration or PBMC cytokine secretion. As CAFs have the capability to survive ablative doses of radiotherapy, these findings could be of importance in tackling CAF-mediated tumor radioresistance.
