constraints (DVCs), radiation-induced toxicities can occur to varying degrees of severity, both acutely and long term 2 . It is estimated that approximately 10% to 20% of pelvic RT patients develop severe long-term gastrointestinal toxicities during a 10-year period following treatment 3 . Extensive literature has demonstrated the effects of rehabilitation following pelvic RT on patient outcomes and quality of life (QoL) 4,5,6 . Moreover, it is well established that exercise intervention plays a significant role in decreasing effects such as radiation-induced DNA damage, oxidative stress and inflammation while increasing antioxidant activity 7 . However, the impact of prehabiliation programs prior to RT is less reported. A Systematic Review (SR) of the literature was undertaken to investigate the effects of prehabilitation exercise interventions in patients undergoing pelvic radiation therapy to include functional capacity, pelvic floor muscle strength and patient-reported outcomes.

Material/Methods:

A review protocol was developed as per PROSPERO guidelines (registration: CRD42023429519). Embase, PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus, were searched using key terms. Articles were assessed against pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 229 papers were identified from the initial systematic search of the four databases, these were combined with systemic searches of bibliographies of related articles and grey literature. Eligible studies were systematically reviewed as per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines by two independent researchers (Figure 1). The assessment of the risk of bias of each study was considered. The assessment tool was developed as part of a Health Technology Assessment 8 which had been used in a previous cancer care systematic review publication 9 . This process yielded three suitable studies which were acceptable quality for inclusion in the review.
