ESTRO 2024 - Abstract Book
S5290 ESTRO 2024 a total or partial reduction of blood testosterone and tested in the model. Groups of rats receiving RT, Deg/Leu/Trp, RT+Deg/Leu/Trp, and non-treated control were compared focusing on late toxicity assessed 6 months after RT administration. Radiobiology - Normal tissue radiobiology
Results:
We exploited a rat model recapitulating the radiation-induced toxic effects on the bladder we had recently established, showing impairment of bladder compliance associated with a structural damage of the urothelium and development of fibrosis. We tested the effect of Deg/Leu/Trp doses inducing a complete suppression of testosterone to castration levels (High) and of doses not completely abolishing the blood testosterone (Low). A single administration of both Deg doses (Low and High) before RT significantly improved the bladder functionality according to micturition intervals (Figure 1).
On the other hand, the two agonists showed similar results in terms of urodynamic parameters recovery, indicating that the protection is independent from the mechanism of action (Figure 2).
