ESTRO 2024
Results:
Between July 2023 and October 2023, 47 patients were recruited. Of these, 38 patients (median age 48 [31-71] years) have completed the study while four dropped out (one due to multiple health complications, one due to financial issues, and two due to change in technique). Patients’ characteristics are summarised in Table 1. As compared to historical data in 2022 (23.7% passing rate), 29 patients (76.3%) passed the DIBH eligibility session (95% CI of 59.8% to 88.6%, p<.001). There are no statistically significant associations between patient’s eligibility for DIBH and age (r pb = -0.222, p=.181), BMI (r pb = -.333, p=0.844), number of breath-hold training prior to session (χ(1) = 2.038, p = .564), usage of training booklet (χ(1) = 3.660, p = .056), usage of training videos (χ(1) = 1.913, p = .167), and usage of nose clip for training (χ(1) = 1.083, p = .298).
Conclusion:
Despite the methodological limitations of this single-arm trial design, preliminary data point towards a significant improvement in DIBH eligibility for left breast cancer patients following the provision of home training materials. While further analysis is required to assess the true impact of breath-hold home training, the promising preliminary
