of tissue equivalent. Although there were uncertainties, it was deemed acceptable to proceed with the 3D bolus plan as the HU difference was not impacting on the dose for the treatment plan.
Due to the rapidly changing patient contours in the HN region, it can be difficult to obtain a consistent thickness and good conformity with manually produced bolus. 3D printed bolus has consistent thickness (Image 1 and 2).
Conclusion:
3D printed bolus has proven to be more consistent in size, thickness and conformity and therefore represents a more accurate representation of planned bolus dosimetrically.
