Conclusion:

MBC tends to be diagnosed at a more advanced stage and older age at the time of diagnosis. Type of practice, age, and educational level did not influence survival outcomes. Stage at diagnosis was the most important independent factor related to OS.

Purpose/Objective:

The findings from multiple clinical trials have established a general agreement that moderately hypofractionated radiation therapy represents the optimal postoperative radiation treatment approach for individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. Nevertheless, certain scenarios, such as those involving breast reconstruction, continue to encounter challenges in achieving broad acceptance. The primary objective of this study is to provide the toxicity outcomes experienced by patients who have undergone moderate hypofractionation, both with and without breast reconstruction.

Material/Methods:

A retrospective analysis was conducted on individuals with non-metastatic breast cancer who underwent treatment with moderately hypofractionated regimens, specifically, 40 Gy administered over 15 fractions, or 42.4 Gy delivered in 16 fractions in a Brazilian Oncology Center between 2010 and 2019. All cases had undergone treatment through field-in-field or IMRT techniques. Patients were divided into 2 groups: breast reconstruction (women underwent mastectomy with implants or autologous tissue) and no breast reconstruction (breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy without breast reconstruction). Bolus was not used.
