Purpose/Objective:
The increased clinical demand of patients eligible, associated costs, and the impracticalities of sending patients overseas initiated the commissioning of two proton beam therapy (PBT) centres in the UK, by NHS England 1 . An important aspect of the development of protocols and procedures in a new PBT NHS service involves Therapeutic Radiographer image verification training, which is standardised and provided in-house as part of a newly developed and comprehensive induction programme. Alongside a more conformal target volume to adhere to, in comparison to photon radiotherapy, within PBT there is inherent additional complexity, such as a variety of range uncertainties, the potential impact of organ motion and set up variations are amplified. Due to proton sensitivity, serious consideration is therefore required to ensure the accurate deposition of dose, dictating that daily IGRT is paramount 2 . A heavy reliance on image verification within PBT
