Conclusion:

By having the specialist neuro RTT in post, the patient's care is smoothly co-ordinated, and they are referred to the wider MDT where appropriate. As seen in the results, this is required for the patients as the side effects from PBT include fatigue and weight changes, which our AHP colleagues are experts in managing. Not all patients were referred to the OT service for management of fatigue as they initially presented with grade 0 or grade 1 score in review. This was evaluated and an OT telephone clinic to screen all patients was implemented with weekly on treatment reviews to actively monitor patients’ symptoms and provide fatigue management intervention at the earliest opportunity. Weight stability among patients was achieved due to the combined support from the dietitian and specialist RTT/clinician. The low incidence of replans for this cohort of patients is a credit to the value of the follow-up provided by the MDT and the management of the pathway by the specialist neuro RTT. This collaborative approach in patient care is essential and access to it is paramount in the NHS to improve patient outcomes.
