Purpose/Objective:

Radiation Therapists (RTT) are crucial in the administration of Radiotherapy (RT). The swift advancement in RT technology and the increasing RT provisions, have brought urgency to recognize, evaluate and establish a structured framework for the RTT profession. This study aims to identify workforce needs for the Belgian RTT workforce and to make recommendations.

Material/Methods:

A self-designed survey requesting information about the departments’ activities, current RTT workforce and future needs was validated and distributed to all RTT managers in Belgium.

The open-ended questions were thematically analysed. Following independent coding of the three open-ended questions, discussions between the first and third authors led to a consensus on the final themes and sub-themes. These were then discussed with the rest of the research team (peer debriefing) in order to improve trustworthiness.

Results:

All 26 primary Belgian RT facilities answered the survey, thus achieving a 100% participation rate. Each theme and sub-theme is further detailed in Tables 1 and 2, with participants’ quotes to support the authors’ conclusions.
