RTT - Service evaluation, quality assurance and risk management

ESTRO 2024

Theme 5. Patient safety

Participants stressed that active monitoring is particularly important in providing an extra level of safety. Participants indicated they felt SGRT created a broader picture of patient setup, eliminating large positioning errors and subsequent repeat imaging. It was felt this also greatly reduced the risk of geographic error.

Conclusion:

RTTs at our centre reported generally positive experiences using SGRT with paediatric patients. While some challenges were noted, these were outweighed by the beneficial impacts of SGRT, particularly on patient experience. Improvements to learning material with paediatric-specific content could further improve user experience, while work could be done to investigate the combination of SGRT with other anxiety reduction and distraction techniques to minimise the use of GA.
