Figure 1: At the top: data related to 3D-CRT treatments. It shows a linear correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient R=0.80 - fit with linear regression) between Ipsilateral Lung V20Gy and the MTIL. At the bottom: data related to VMAT treatments. It shows a completely different distribution of data, approximated to a nonlinear dispersion (R=0.21) around the mean values of V20Gy as MTIL varies.
MTIL: maximum thickness of ipsilateral lung.
Conclusion:
According to literature [2], our study confirmed that VMAT technique in the right breast radiotherapy increases the low doses delivered to the OARs. It is more and more advantageous as the MTIL increases.
