RTT - Treatment planning, OAR and target definitions

ESTRO 2024

Conclusion:

Significant SE occurs during RT. Quantification of SE and PTV margin is essential and each institution should measure their own set up errors occurring in the RT department in order to ensure that the targets are adequately covered by the prescribed dose. Efficacy of RT treatment depends on patient’s setup, as they are dependent on factors such as immobilization devices and the clinical experience of the staff. Furthermore, the inadequate definition of PTV can lead to local failure due to geographical tumour misses, or to increase the dose to the normal tissues near the CTV. This research reports our clinical experience with IGRT in the treatment of HNC, with the aim to define the overall accuracy of our setup procedures and to determine the appropriate PTV margins to be adopted in our hospital.
