This is the first publication demonstrating the risk of RICE development is strongly linked to risk factors associated with ischemic stroke. The data further enhances our vague understanding of multifactorial pathophysiology and opportunities of tackling RICE. Classical vascular risk factors, specifically age, hypertension and diabetes correlated the strongest with RICE risk. Risk-adapted screening and therapy can be derived from this data.
