Conclusion:
Conclusion: Although this systematic literature review shows a wide variation in HPA dysfunction after irradiation, the meta-analysis shows a prevalence for insufficiency on any axis of 63%. Therefore, it is of importance to gain more knowledge about the development HPA insufficiency over time, related to radiation dose to eventually determine the maximum tolerable dose to the HPA in radiotherapy treatment of brain, head and neck and skull base tumors. Taking quality of life aspects into account, endocrine follow-up on all axes is highly recommended in patients, irradiated for brain, head and neck and skull base tumors.
Keywords: Hypothalamo-pituitary axis, insufficiency
