Conclusion: A novel algorithm for automated patient-tailored beam angle optimisation in IMPT was presented and validated for oropharynx patients. The generated plans were dosimetrically superior to plans with fixed clinical beam angles. Calculations times were clinically feasible, while manual workload was avoided.
