We observed an inverse relation between self-fulfillment and emotional exhaustion (Pearson correlation = -0.337; p = 0.007). Differences near significance were found (p = 0.061) in the levels of depersonalization according to the year of residence; and in risk of full-burnout syndrome in R3-R4 vs R1-R2 (HR = 1.682; p = 0.086) (Fig. 2). Figure 2.
Conclusion: This is the first study about burnout levels among RO residents in Spain, and it reveals a high prevalence of burnout symptoms. Emotional exhaustion and depersonalization were notably elevated. Reviewing and homogenizing the residency training plan to reduce burnout and increase scientific activity and specific training seems necessary.
