Abstract:

Optical surface detection systems have been widely used in the radiation oncology clinical practice, providing safe and reliable patient positioning and localization accuracy throughout the whole treatment. This modality, as so called Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) introduced new concepts and opportunities in the recent years and reveals its potential as it becomes standard of care in RT. As SGRT is evolving together with its automated mechanisms for real-time body monitoring, it represents an integral facilitator for clinical practice for all treatment sites at a global scale. Education and training are therefore, a cornerstone to develop new knowledge and updated skills for clinical implementation and further research towards optimal treatment delivery and patient satisfaction. The transition from standard to advanced practice in SGRT requires tailored programs for radiation therapists (RTTs) that combines core competencies in imaging modalities for planning, IGRT and treatment delivery protocols along with site specific SGRT workflows for all clinical case scenarios, from 3D to 4D. An overview of past and current educational programs became mandatory to project the future of competency-based framework for SGRT optimal application for all patients.

Abstract: Welcome to the cutting-edge world of Online Adaptive Radiotherapy, where radiographers are at the heart of this innovative cancer treatment. This state-of-the-art treatment is redefining how we deliver radiotherapy, empowering radiographers to lead the way in personalising and optimising care for each patient. Why should you join this research project? Because this the peak of radiotherapy investigations. What questions are we answering? P – Patient centred Care - How can we ensure and develop a personalised treatment and adapting technology to meet individual needs? E- Everyone – How can we collaborate with oncologists, physicists, and other healthcare professionals to make real time adjustments to treatment? How does this teamwork impact patient care and treatment effectiveness? A – Accelerated - How do radiographers utilise adaptive radiotherapy technology to streamline treatment delivery, and what role does this play in improving both treatment speed and quality? K – Knowledge - How does the involvement of radiographers in emerging technologies contribute to advancing their expertise in radiotherapy ?
